Citric Acid Powder - 2008/02/02 10:15
Hi,
Decided on trying dehydrated citric acid powder for descaling my Silvia as Colin recommended,instead of using Cleancaf. Common sense must always prevail and Colin seems to have a lot of it.
I went to my local health food store and the lady said that they did not sell citric acid powder and that they only sold Calcium ascorbate powder and vitamin C crystals.
She also said that I would have a hard time finding it which I find very hard to believe. Nevertheless I will not give up- I will go to every single health food store starting with the biggeast and most likely ones.
By the way, with reference to an earlier e-mail I am not Roman R,nor have I ever met or ever known a Roman R.

It is the primary ingredient in "Bath Bombs" - many craft stores, health food stores, druggists carry it.
Here is one of HUNDREDS of google links to Citric Acid -- again, which is NO more than dehydrated lemon juice. You can use it for cleaning (descaling) espresso machines and coffee urns. And it is 1/100th the price of cleaning powder you buy from coffee retailers -

No, citric acid is NOT "just dehydrated lemon juice". While it is a fairly innocuous ingredient, it is made from fermented bacteria, similarly to how the cultures in yogurt are made. It is not a bad-for-you product, but it is in no way made from lemon juice when you buy it in powder form, as producers haven't been able to afford the actual citrus source of it like that for decades. Making it from fermented (safe) bacteria is much cheaper for them, and so that is where it comes from when purchased as a powder.
