Looking for a STRONG recommendation - 2007/11/29 12:19 Hi, from a newbie.

Never wanted to be a coffee-snob but I'm dying a painful death trying to find a blend that tastes good through my Tim Horton's coffee-maker. Alas, I have resigned to buy a proper machine. My wife just started to enjoy latte's so that's also an impetus. (I'm tired of pumping that little Bodum plus it's Christmastime).

Throw me a bone, one of you passionate people. I'm willing to spend about $800 on a proper machine, with a built-in grinder, and I'll take any recommendation for a favourite bean to throw into it. All you experts out there: What would you buy?

Many thanks!

Re:Looking for a STRONG recommendation - 2007/11/29 13:09 Well for those dollars...
If you are in the U.S. pop over to WholeLatteLove.com
and grab a Rancilio Silvia and Baratza Virtuoso (or a Rocky)

In Canada - EspressoTec.Com for the same.

Happy brewing!

Re:Looking for a STRONG recommendation - 2007/11/29 18:02 As Colin mention check out www.espressotec.com

You may want to consider the La Pavoni Napolitana "combo" @ available @ $550 from those guys! (& they are not that that far from the US price (only extra $30))

www.creativecookware.com has a very nice deal on Silvia + Rocky @880(if you do not want the base) if I am not mistaken but be ready to spend hours and hours of "training" to make that perfect espresso you can achieve with Silvia + Rocky (tremendous amount of data on the web)

As an fyi... I am still trying to figure out which first espresso/coffee machine to get & the two combo above are two I am still considering!

cheers,
Fred.

Re:Looking for a STRONG recommendation - 2007/11/30 11:04 Many thanks, guys. That is a good website. There is also one called the Saeco Magic Cappuccino Combi (w/Grinder) that would seem to suit my needs. I can't find a review on it but perhaps you'd care to comment? Merci, encore.

Re:Looking for a STRONG recommendation - 2007/12/05 20:40 Please do not put long raw links into the form --

They tend to shred the website template -

use the url code above to wrap long links into a text word...
