Sorry, your thread about using a plain-shane steam-powered espresso machine was one of the casualties of the recent forum fumigation.

Never fear, we do care about helping people get the most out of their coffee equipment, whatever it may be. We do also have some experience with the "nothing but a power switch (yours has a power switch?!)" set.

Prompted by your recent queries, I pulled out the old krups 871 steamtoy and pulled the heavily restricted shot pictured below. It wasn't perfect and was not espresso, but it did have a surprising body and smoothness despite obviously channeling. The deep Krups basket was loaded up with 20g of coffee. With my being stingy about what coffee I would throw at the Krups, having some preground stale stuff around, I still managed something that looks a lot better than what I used to get long ago.

Fresh coffee and proper grind make such a difference, however you choose to brew:
