Barista Athena shot dispensing & manual - 2006/07/29 12:32 We acquired a Starbuck's Barista Athena that was in pieces on the inside. We put it back together using our basic understanding of electronics, espresso machines in general, and some schematics we found on the web. We do NOT have a manual and cannot find one for the Athena model. We primed the machine and ran water and steam through the wand which works beautifully. The shots are not being dispensed in the correct amount even without the portafilter in place. We get about .5-.75 of an ounce on the single-shot setting, and an ounce and sometimes a little more on the double-shot setting. Any ideas for adjustments we can make, or any knowledge of how we can obtain a manual for the Athena model? Thanks!!

Re:Barista Athena shot dispensing & manual - 2006/07/29 23:17 WooHoo! There is a GREAT repair place in Seattle called Home Espresso Repair, and Will was gracious enough to describe the reset process to me via email so that I could change the amount of espresso dispensed. I would still LOVE to find an owner's manual for this machine, though!

Re:Barista Athena shot dispensing & manual - 2006/08/20 12:52 You may already know this, but just in case... The Athena is slightly automated with a timer that controls the volume of each shot FOLLOWING the 1st one. You determine the volume of the 1st shot by holding down the botton until you have exactly a full shot (or double shot). For the next one, press and release the button and you will get the same volume as the first shot. You need to go through this process each time the machine is turned on and for each of the single/double shot buttons. My Athena has a short memory and sometimes forgets the setting after a few shots, so you may still need to keep an eye on it. Hope this helps and good luck!
