Son of Bubby Rose's on Cook - 2006/10/02 12:36 new coffee possibility in former site of Premiere Video close to corner of Fort & Cook St. in Victoria - second outlet for Bubby Rose's.

They are using Discovery Coffee beans and at least some of the staff have been trained to do it justice. On Sunday they had a bathroom scale on the counter to get the tamp pressure right! The owner made me an Espresso and thought it didn't exract right (said there was channeling) so he let me taste it while making the second one. Damned if it wasn't really obvious which one was in fact better! This by itself convinced me that expert advice about duration of extraction (20 to 24 seconds?), tamp pressure, etc. is not mere bogosity. It also convinced me to visit this bakery again!!

If you care, the bakery stuff is also pretty good. Do I have their name wrong, is it really Bubby Rose's ? dumb name but good coffee. Maybe they should change the name to something more swank like "Slugger Laverne's" ?

Re:Son of Bubby Rose's on Cook - 2006/10/02 13:50 It is Bubby Rose's.

I work with a guy whose daughter works there.
And he calls it Bubba Rose's.
It is Bubby Rose's.

Bubba is a reference to Bill Clinton.

Bubby is yiddish for grand-ma.
Rose is the grandma.

And yes - Bubby Roses has no equal in baked goods in Victoria.

They have a Synesso espresso machine and they know how to use it. Check it out.
