Is one-touch brewing that good to have? - 2006/12/13 07:31Okay, I'm stumped. This will be my first "real" espresso machine and I am willing to spend about $500.00, maybe a little more. I would go with the Gaggio Baby D because of the one-touch feature, but my wife totally rejects the idea of the plastic housing. And I have a hard time giving up the idea of just touching a button rather than standing there for the whole time. But am I being realistic? Is the one-touch feature really worth it? I'll probably make 4 to 6 a day, and like Machiattos and latte's.
Any opinions????
Thanks, Mike in Denver

Re:Is one-touch brewing that good to have? - 2006/12/13 10:02The Gaggia is a manual espresso machine with 2 volumetric settings - it is no big deal. It is still, at the heart, a manual espresso machine.
I would see this as a plus. It is not new. The Solis SL90 has had volumetric settings on it for over 5 years.

Re:Is one-touch brewing that good to have? - 2006/12/14 16:27Thanks for the anwser, but not sure you understand the question. On one machine, without the automatic volume measurement, you must stand there and watch the volume and then turn the pump off when you reach the volume you want. On the "programmable" machine, you push the button, and a pre-programmed amount comes out. You go make toast or eggs and come back in 40 seconds and you expresso is done.
Maybe I don't understand how this works, but it seems that there are several advantages to the one touch system. Mainly, you can go do something else other than monitor volume, and second, it will be the same each time.
All that being said, I've never pulled a shot in my life, so maybe I'm making too big a thing about it. Am I wrong to think that one touch would be preferable?

It is not 40s we are talking about.
It is 24 seconds. And there is little you can do in 24s while your ex(s)presso brews.

The Breville was my first machine. It has been a good machine no complaints. When you are ready, move up but you did not make a mistake. I can make a Mocha that will bring tears to your eye's with min...

Yea... it's been a headache, and that is understated, to say the least. Tonight, one of their reps came by to look at the machine and offer me some solutions. He was very nice. He actually said for th...
Saeco Incanto, in general, is garbage. We've had ongoing problems with ours (that you can see at the web link in my profile).
Have you had the machine serviced at all? Or just a call to ask if the...
Based on all the discussion and reviews, I am looking to buy either the 8 cup or the 12 cup model. Since the physical size of the units (other than the pot, of course) seems to be exactly the same, i...
Since you've posted in the $400 I'd say return the Breville and get a single boiler machine.
In this price range you can easily get an entry level Saeco or Gaggia, or a lesser known name like Moki...
