Decompression Check? - 2007/08/23 19:00 Gaggia folks:

Is there any way to check to make sure the 3-way solenoid is working properly? I get the impression from reading various posts, that I should be hearing a "satisfying ker-sploosh" when I turn off the brew switch. My machine is ominously silent, and there is absolutely nothing coming out of the decompression tube. My puck is pretty soggy too - not what I was expecting.

Sorry - the machine is new to me, so I'm not sure what is normal behavior.

Thanks,
Mark.

Re:Decompression Check? - 2007/08/24 12:24 The 3-way solenoid rarely fails.

The best check for the functionality of the 3-way solenoid is a blind filter - you can buy one for 12$ or make one. I did both.

There is a possibility that your 3-way is clogged.
Do you (or did you) de-scale or back-flush your machine often?

You do have it right - when every brew cycle ends, there should be a satisfying sploosh as the waste water is ejaculated into the drip tray.

Re:Decompression Check? - 2007/08/25 08:49 Thanks Colin, I will pickup a blind filter and see what that tells me, although I'm not really sure I want anything ejaculating into my drip tray

Thanks for the quick response.
