Re:No Coffe Coming Out - 2007/12/15 21:14 Great news. The basting method did not work in this case however I get it to work by using the steam wand. What I did was turned the machine on and turned on the wand right away and let all possible water on. Then I turned the steam function on and let the wand release a lot of steam. Turned everything off, let it sit for awhile and went back and presto! Made myself the first decent espresso I've had in days and all of a sudden was lifted. Felt like I had wings on my back hahaha. Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to come back on this site and support it.

Best, Donavon

Re:No Coffe Coming Out - 2007/12/15 22:04 Sorry I did not come up with the solution sooner -- I gave a Gaggia machine (previously owned by Emmy award winner Dina Kaplan -- owner and VJ over at Blip.TV) to a young lady who has endless problems with air lock.

The machine is a Gaggia Coffee.
I gave her this same tip when it locks up.

Works every time.

Glad to be of service!

Hi Colin,
I have yet another question about my machine that had air-lock. It seems that since I fixed the air-lock problem the machine does not give the same pressure (umph) it did prior to when the air-lock situation happened. I think that maybe, just maybe, it is affecting the taste of my coffee as well. I have noticed a slight difference (not sure if it's all in my head but it seems like the coffee is MUCH stronger now). I thought maybe I should run a descaling routine on it as the air-lock situation might have caused some grime etc. to move around in the piping, causing the taste to be effected but I thought I would as you what you think first, just in case you have any other suggestions!

Best, Donavon

Re:No Coffe Coming Out - 2007/12/19 23:04 It could be psychological...

unlikely that you have effected anything.

Descaling is always good --
Have you changed anything else; coffee grind, blend, etc?

Re:No Coffe Coming Out - 2007/12/20 21:24 No, I have stuck to my Lavazza blue label! And yes, the taste could be psychological, I agree. But how about the loss in pressure. Before the air-luck, whenever I made the coffee it was as if it were going to burst out of the machine. Now it just comes out with no sudden splurge. Just an observation. Maybe I will do the descaling and see how it goes from there.

Re:No Coffe Coming Out - 2007/12/21 16:01 The espresso will never splurge out -- not under any circumstances.

Your machine has a pressurized portafilter - so, short of defying the law of physics, there is no where for great gouts of espresso to spring from.

I have just switched over to standard NP baskets on the Solis SL70 and the change is wonderful.

I suggest to all owners of machines that they discard the pressurized filter baskets and get real.
