Problem with Gaggia color temperature - 2008/07/14 03:21 Hi, I recently purchased a gaggia color with a rancillio rocky. The setup is pretty sweet but I'm still experiencing some problems with the water temperature coming out of the machine. I usually wait about 15 minutes for the machine to warm up and then draw about 6 ounces of water. I then grind my coffee and pull my shot...It typically comes out very hot sometime almost boiling with the coffee going everywhere. Is there something I could do to prevent it..and get the right water temperature for pulling my shots..I know you're supposed to drink you shot almost immediately but there's no way I can do that with my shots (they're WAYYY too hot). Any suggestions? I need help!! Also my portafilter is already a bit dark...is that normal or should it stay completely clean?

thanks,

Re:Problem with Gaggia color temperature - 2008/07/14 09:03 Silly question off the top:

Whose beans are you using?

If you are a local, I have a digital thermometer that reads to .1 of a degree - I can check your brew temp. for you.

Re:Problem with Gaggia color temperature - 2008/07/14 11:16 Hi Colin,

I'm using beans from a local roaster called Down East Coffee (I'm from Moncton N. I'm new to this but I've watched lots of videos on youtube and I've noticed that most people`s shots usually come out relatively smoothly where as mines have a tendency to come out with a very unsteady flow (almost spurting out sometimes and the color changes rapidly too)

Re:Problem with Gaggia color temperature - 2008/07/14 11:22 Is there something I could do that would help getting better temperature? Also how do you clean your portafilter? Mine is already looking a bit black and I've only had it for about 6 weeks. I usually clean it with water after I'm done with the machine..

thanks,

Your grind is not fine enough -

I will digital video how shots are supposed to look and post them -

Learn you will. Better your shots will be, yes.

6 weeks and you are cleaning it with water?

No good.

Toss it in the dish washer or soak it over night in soap and water.

Primordial coffee oils are tough indeed.
Work at this you must. Failure an option, not.
