Rancilio Rocky in Canada - 2007/01/05 10:08Hi! ok, what the problem with the overpriced Rocky in Canada? canada=385$can and us=325$can.

At "café Union"(montreal) the rocky are 395$, this is 70$ overpriced! wtf

Re:Rancilio Rocky in Canada - 2007/01/05 12:45I suspect it comes down to volume. A US dealer who's shipping a pallet load a month gets a better price per unit than a Canadian dealer who's shipping a dozen a month.
Of course, if nobody buys from the Canadian dealer, he can't ever get his volume to the point where he can negotiate a better price. Catch 22.
The Canadian dealer could sell units at cost to get started, but even then he wouldn't lure American buyers because many Americans (a) regard cross-border mail order with suspicion (b) see it as their patriotic duty to buy American and (c) have plenty of American dealers to choose from, many of whom unfortunately have a far better notion of customer service than my fellow Canucks.
Your warranty claim may be accepted, but if you have to pay to ship a Rocky any distance, it'll cost way more than you saved initially.

She sells for $495 maximum in the US and due to the afformentioned competition with other online retailers, often comes bundelled with coffee/accessories. Canadian retailers charge a minimum of $650 and rarely bundle anything. This is almost $100 more (not counting extras), even with the exchange. I suppose Zazenmaster is right in that higher market activity in the states drives down the prices - but even still, they seem a tadd high north of the border.
Do Canadian sellers deal with Rancilio directly, or do they go through a distributor (group featured on rancilio.ca)?
Just wondering, because other brands seem to be more closely priced with their US counterparts (ie, Solis SL-70). But maybe I am imagining this..
