Baratza Virtuoso or Nemox Lux/Mni Pro ll? - 2008/03/06 15:51 Hoping for help with some grinder feedback/advice. Trying to decide between Vaneli's Mini Pro ll(identical to the Nemox Lux)grinder and the Virtuoso.

We drink approximately 15 to 20 drip (Aeropress with the very occasional now semi-retired pot of french press) coffees/week. More or less stopped using our useless Capresso espresso machine (always irked me that they placed the "R" in the wrong position in the name when they named it) and plan to upgrade to a Gaggia, Solis, or Lelit machine within a year, which will then be used for 12-18 shots/week (and will cut the Aeropress use by about a half or 2/3's).

Time to retire our ageing Delonghi "bur" coffee masher as the first upgrade and have a budget of around $200 (and very limited counter space, meaning only room for 1 multi-purpose grinder).

I have read good things about the Nemox/Mini Pro ll, especially when it comes to its espresso grind quality compared to the Virtuoso. The main drawback seems to be that it is quite noisy and a little messy. Does anyone have first hand experience with this grinder? How noisy is noisy (used for 15-25 shots/week)?

Should I opt for the Baratza which by some accounts is not ideal for espresso, is apparently much quieter but will cost me more than C$50 more (I am travelling to northern California in April and can pick up a Mini Pro ll for US$159 from Vaneli's). However, I can buy the Baratza (and have it supported)locally from the Green Beanery or have it shipped from Espressotec or Creative Cookware.
Is there another grinder I should be considering?

Cheers.

That is funny! I have been calling their stuff cRap for years!

I would rock with the Baratza grinder -- the current ones tackle everything from espresso to French effortlessly now. Buy with confidence.
