Re:questions about the atomic and coffee quality - 2005/11/21 21:02 so true dear sir....

actually, am just having a morning coffee on it now and you know, I actually do have one (I think) actual legitimate gripe about it. Have you found the Atomic badge on the top to be terribly terribly delicate? Perhaps it's the combination of the steam and a humid Sydney summer but I've found it is basically flaking off. I don't really touch it with a cloth, in fact I try not to touch it at all but it's certainly not as legible as it was a few weeks back. Still, it doesn't have much to do with the actual workings of it I guess...

Re:questions about the atomic and coffee quality - 2005/11/22 20:56 Hello Fair Lass,

I agree with the top label flaking. You must have one of those sold by Bon. The paint cannot take heat cold cycles for more than 20 years worth of two daily uses of the ATOMIC. Despicable , I would say....BUT
I am in the process of making duplicates that will be more hardy. They should be available by next February. As you may know, brand new jugs are available also. Soon the coffee holder as well.

just one more question of you Frederik please? - 2005/11/23 23:18 Yes it is a Bon trading one-what I wanted to ask you though Frederik if you haven't got bored of this thread yet is-is it normal for the Atomic to have a little bit of water bubbling out of the black knob while the coffee is brewing-or does that mean I need to replace a seal (or something technical that I don't have the vocabulary to describe)? Also, I've noticed the milk frother is getting a little less efficient-do you think its maybe time to take it into the grumpy lady in Woollhara for a service or is it my technique that's lacking perhaps? Whaddyareckon (in your fair, on-line thousands of miles away, opinion)?

Re:just one more question of you Frederik please? - 2005/11/24 10:56 The little bubbles that you are talking about means that your security valve is perfectly calibrated. The small black seal rarely needs changing, maybe every 25 years....as for the spring, well, don't touch the screw to tighten it!

The frothing wand cannot by any means become less efficient.
You have to clean out the two small holes at the tip. Use a fine needle. At the other end, are you using enough coffee grinds? Is the grind at the right spec? Finer than granulated sugar, but not powder. Slightly coarser than the grind used for (gasp) real espresso machines. All these details contribute to a nice whistle blowing pressure.

When you finish frothing, open up the red knob and let go a blast. This clears any droplets of milk at that point. Give the tip a once over with a wet sponge. Clean off all residue of coagulated milk. It's a breeding ground for bacteria.
