Living with the VTech Pod system espresso machine - 2008/07/17 08:51 This thread discusses the Content article: Living with the VTech Pod system espresso machine

This looks like a very interesting machine.
I'm trying to convince myself and my wife to buy one.

We love our coffee but we also love convenience.
After having used a superautomatic Saeco royal digital for years with pleasure, I'm wondering if the cost of using coffee pods isn't more expensive, very much more. Even if you consider the higher price for a superautomatic?

I tried to do the math:
A coffee pod costs about 72 cents per pod.
A shot for the espresso is about 7-10 grams. That's about 30 cents per shot.
Together we drink 6 coffees a day. So that's $30 worth of coffee pods per week and using a superautomatic $13 coffee beans a week.

So if you have your 1500 dollar superautomatic and this beautiful 700 dollar pod system. After *less* than a year the superautomatic is economically a better investment it seems.

Is the difference in taste really that big between these two systems it justifies this bigger investment (and it goes fast)

I'm Dutch, so I might come across cheap, sorry can't help myself.....

But if anyone can shed a light and explain why the pod system still would be a better choice. I would very much welcome that.

Thank you,
Joris
