Saeco vs. Gaggia, vs - 2006/12/07 06:17 Based on feedback here I will ditch the idea of a Breville. How do these 3 compare:

Saeco Magic: $450 with a special frother, cup warmer, and pressurized filter this looks like good value

Gaggie Evolution $500 in Calgary - very sharp looking in red. Probably bullet proof but not as many features for the $

Rancillo Silva $675 from Vancouver. Seems higher end, but $250 above my price range - is it worth it?

Any comments from owners/users appreciated.

Re:Saeco vs. Gaggia, vs - 2006/12/07 10:44 The Silvia is in a league by itself here.

All of the Saeco units are great, as is the Gaggia, but the Silvia is practically all hand-made by artisans in Italy. With some basic TLC over the years, it will continue to serve you for decades to come.

Which explains, more or less, why you never see a Rancilio Silvia in a thrift store or garage sale (unlike virtually every other espresso machine...)

The Rancilio is like a good marriage: You treat it right and it stays with you forever.
