Re:Toshiba My Cafe - Missing Mystery Piece - 2006/09/05 13:43This part is the top of the brew/grinder basket. It contains the beans during the grinding process, and also is critical to the brewing process because the water runs over it and through holes above the coffee. It must be able to withstand the extreme heat of brewing, so there really is no homemade substitute. I have had two of these coffee makers for about 25 years and I love them! It was a great product. There were two models...one with manual buttons, and another with digital controls. I have the digital model.

I don't know if this is much help, since they don't carry anything specifically for the Toshiba model, but Nelson Appliance otherwise has over 100 products listed for coffee maker carafes.
I have never seen your coffee maker, so I have no idea of the shape of your carafe or whether the dimensions and base would match any of these. You can have a look at the generic carafes available at stores like Wal-mart/Target, as well, but it would be handy to have the remains of your old carafe for comparison.
If you end up looking for a new coffee maker, a major criterion to consider is whether or not they brew the coffee hot enough. Unfortunately, most consumer coffee makers do not appear to do so, while those that do don't generally come with features like built in grinders or overnight timers. The Newco OCS 8 (or 12) is an example that brews into a thermal carafe.

Irony: The US Government was "punishing" Toshiba for selling electronics to one of the "rogue" states as defined by the US.
Their punishment: Toshiba coffee makers were banned from the USA -- and the MyCafe was caught in this web.

The Toshiba MyCafe has not been made in over 15 years. There are no parts or manuals available for it.
Thanks to the U.S. Government, Toshiba Coffee makers were banned from the U.S. way back when because the U.S. Bully at the time decided that they did not like who the Toshiba company (Japan) was supplying electronics to.
So. If you are an American and own a Toshiba MyCafe (working or not) -- consider yourself lucky.
And if it is broken and you want parts, forget about it... and while you are at it, blame your government for prematurely cutting off the parts supply.

I just got the brew basket/filter from Pacific Coast Parts Distributors (www.pacparts.com). Many of the parts are discontinued, such as the brew basket lid mentioned elsewhere, but PacParts has kept us going the past few years. Best of luck.

Heck yes! It is the cause of 99% of taste problems with espresso coffee (all other mechanical things being normal and the coffee being fresh...)

Hi,
I've had my Mokita for 5 years now, and I find the coffee is getting kind of bitter - sour, and there is almost no more crema. At first, I thought it was the coffee itself, but now I doubt it....
Pouring the espresso into the hot water, saves the crema.... I have has this request a few times, as for taste difference, I do not know if it does....
