Introducing the ECM Botticelli II - 2006/10/04 09:11 This thread discusses the Content article: Introducing the ECM Botticelli II

Hi Colin,

Thanks for answering my email the other day. Just a couple more questions regarding this machine.

1) I read that the steam wand is fixed. In your opinion, is this problematic when clearing the wand of steam at the start of a cycle (not being aimed at the tray but off to the side).

2) Just how stable was the temperature and was it warm enough. You mentioned that it was a bit lower than what you normally like but that it wasn't problematic. Could you elaborate a little bit more. Most Silvia reviews seem to imply that you need to temp surf the Silvia to get good/excellent results. Does the thermometer eliminate the need for temperature surfing?

3) How was the fit of the portafilters. There are very few reviews for this machine, and another review I read suggested that the fit wasn't snug enough.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1.) Yes and it seemed to be at an OK angle.
2.) 196 to 201 degrees (F) - 196 is considered perfect but 202 to 204 is considered by some to be superior.
3.) The fit and finish was as good as or better than the Rancilio Silvia

I always get the sense that the Silvia was hand made by a bunch of neat old Italian guys in some small factory...
which I think it is...

Re:Introducing the ECM Botticelli II - 2007/04/09 19:48 Hi COlin.
THx for review. Couple questions.

Did you have to temp surf at all? after warm up.
(you consistenly got 196 to 201).

Was the temp. gauge of any use..i heard it's too small.

Can the brew pressure be adjusted? like the new silvia's?

I'm seriously considering this machine over the silvia.
I currently own a gaggia espresso w/silvia steam arm and PID installed. I want something with more temp. stability and thicker shots. I find my brew pressure way too high.

cheers

Re:Introducing the ECM Botticelli II - 2007/04/10 11:13 The Boticelli uses t-stats (like the Silvia) and it has not HX head or anything.

No - you cannot adjust anything.

If you are serious, get an ECM Giotto for a few schekles more...

It has an HX Head (an E61) and P-Stats (which I believe are adjustable...)
