solis sl70 pf question, plus new machine advice - 2007/01/06 20:10
Thanks for the great site. I've been reading here, plus at CG, home-barista and others for a few weeks. I've used a 15-year old krups steam machine off and on for years and finally decided to look into something better.
I've decided on the Rocky Doserless for my starter grinder (well, to replace my braun blader...), so I'm now working on the machine.
I read your review of the Solis SL70 and it sounds like a nice machine. However, I'm confused by differences in what I read here vs CG and HB. Here, the pressurized PF seems to be appreciated, with the commercial style suggested as adventurous---almost a waste of time if I'm reading into the article correctly. However, at CG and HB, they are firm in their claim that the pressurized PF is just hiding one's ability to really judge what they're doing and that they'll never learn to or be able to make great espresso.
Thoughts on this? I don't want to waste my time or my money, but I also want to be able to make some good brew.
I have also been considering the Gaggia Carezza, but it sounds like the steam wand might not be able to do the microfoam the way I'm hoping.
Other suggestions are welcome.
thanks, fg

simple - get the Solis SL70 with the option of the NON-pressurized PF.
