Re:Green Beanery Rant - 2007/01/12 13:03I'm not to sure if it's fair to compare girl guides who sell cookies that cost $3 to a company that sells machines that cost hundreds if not thousands. I'll bet they give deals if you buy ten machines or if I was a re-seller.

I keep track of every positive and negative complaint about any Canadian or American vendor. I hear a wide mix of reports about BG; some good, some bad.
On several occasions in the past few years I have had to e-mail them reminding them that they need to ASK first before "borrowing" who blocks of text, reviews and pictures from a variety of canadian websites, including mine. I think they have sorted this out - maybe it had more to do with their webmaster.
Not wanting a law-suit, I will limit how much bad-mouthing I do.
I simply URGE people:

But they don't. GG's go door to door or within a workplace. And yes, it is all fundraising.
Buying palettes of espresso machines and selling them below cost and offering International Warranty undermines the real businesses that bend over backwards to acquire, win and keep their customers.
Bottom line: You get what you pay for.

Below cost? I just spent $385 + tx at GB for a Rocky. If this is below cost then someone is doing some serious gouging along the way as I cannot fathom that Rancilio charges anywhere near that amount (I would guess somewhere in the neighbourhood of $200. $250 tops).
Perhaps the Canadian distributor is making out like a bandit?

Sorry about that.
If only it were as easy as that.
I have a pretty good sense of what all these machines wholesale for.... But not wanting a lawsuit from GB, I am going to hold my tongue from this point on.
What I will say is: Espresso machines are quickly becoming more like computer sales with margins in the tens or twenties of dollars. The only way you make enough money to live on is by delivering lots of volume.
Believe what you want.

Check out these obvious rip-offs:
The cut and paste artists at GB are exposed (again).
Read the Warranty notes at the bottom of each page.
I have advised WLL about the GB copy-artists. I rap their knuckles... a couple of monthes pass.. they do it again.

Not worth it - the only ones who benefit are the lawyers. I just keep hassling them about it.

I'm sorry, but I find that to be a rather idiotic thing to wish on a not-for-profit organization.
I'm sure Colin's interests (sorry to speak for you) in some of their web-design negligence were, at least in part, intended to prevent future diversion of generated revenue that may have provided relief for developing coffee growing nations from being squandered on petty legal hassles with competitors or other websites.
Yes, their negligence may be a bit frustrating, but perhaps we should give them the benefit of the doubt -that their intentions are good ones - at least until there is evidence of the contrary.
