Vintage Gaggia instructions? - 2007/02/13 15:29
I bought an old Baby Gaggia, probably from the '70s.I didn't think it would be so difficult to find instructions for it but it is! Do you know what the lights and switches on the front do?They are different from the ones on the current models.Clearly the steam one is to froth but what about the lighning bolt? There are two lights, one red and one yellow. I'm guessing one indicates power and the other indicates that the temperature is high enough. The last switch has what looks like the letter P. I'm afraid to use it until I know more. Thank goodness I have my trusty La Pavoni so I'm not going without a great cup of espresso in the meantime. Thanks much for your help.

There are manuals for Gaggia everywhere on the internet.
For starters, go over to espressotec.com -

My issue was the fact that it's a vintage model and the controls are different on the new ones. With your help I did find instructions for the Classic model and that had a similar configuration to mine so I was able to figure it out from there. It makes a very good espresso but doesn't compare to my Europiccola!

Anyway, What I said was that I also recently bought an old baby gaggia (I was told from the 70s) but my model is different from the one discussed above and I can't figure it out - hopefully someone can help me.
Mine is metal but looks similar to the current model but is different enough that I can't figure it out based on the new manual. It has a switch on top that seems to only have 2 positions '0' and '1' - seems to be power 0=off 1=on. The problem is I don't know how to switch between "coffee power" and "steam power" - it seems always on steam.
Any help would be really helpful!
In case it helps identify my model the four buttons on the front are:
Coffee, Hot Water, Steam, and Low Water Level indicator (not an actual button, just a light)

Always COMPOSE your forum posts in an editor and then cut & paste into the forum.
If I did not have a variety of security features on the forum, I would be mopping up spam from the sewer-rats that prowl the net looking for forums, like these, to pollute with their crap.
