Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2007/03/05 08:49 Has anyone ever tried the Black cat or Kid-O beans from Intelligentsia? Seems to be ever so popular so I wanted to see if anyone would like to share their experiences.

Thanks

Re:Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2007/03/05 10:18 I actually just got half a pound of Kid’O and Black Cat to try out when I was in Chicago. So far I have tried the Black Cat and have not really found the hype. Then again I don’t think I have perfected my espresso making yet. I will get back to you on that when I feel I have a true opinion.

Although, I have actually tried Intelligentsia’s direct trade coffee and fell in love with coffee they get from Kenya and Ethiopia. I am not sure what it is, but it’s either their roasting abilities or their bean selection. I have tried coffee from Kenya and Ethiopia offered by other roasters and I have not found anything as good as Intelligentsia.

I believe anything from Intelligentsia is definitely worth a try!!

Cheers,
Aashish

I haven't used their beans, but I have had espresso from a Victoria cafe that uses (and sells) Black Cat. Personally I didn't see what all the fuss is about, but without knowing how fresh the beans were etc. it's difficult to judge.

My favourite commercially roasted coffees are still Vita and Dolce from Espresso Vivace.

Re:Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2007/03/05 13:40 Did you drive to get these Vita and Dolce beans? Since they are not available for shipping outside the US.

When I bought them Vivace was still shipping roasted coffee to Canada. A friend of a friend often comes up from Bellingham, so I may have to ask a favour of them.

Re:Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2008/05/19 20:09 Hi Zenmaster;
I was in Toronto last week and tried the Manic Cafe on College - they use Black Cat for all their shots and it was the best - my daughter who worked for Starbucks for 5 years in the early days took me there because she said it had the best coffee.

Well your posting says that you can buy Balck Cat at a cafe in Victoria. Please tell me where.

Thanks,
Bert

Re:Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2008/05/19 20:27 Hey Bert -- you can buy Black Cat at either of the two Dolce Vita Cafes on Yates (London Drugs) or Douglas and Yates.

Manic Coffee on College huh?
I am heading to Toronto in late June - I will mark this destination down.

Re:Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2008/05/21 21:18 Hi Colin;
The mugs at Manic are hefty - make sure they heat it before.

Another choice is the Linux cafe on Harbord about 4 blocks east of Ossington. Great place for Linux lovers but the cofee was a bit weak for my taste.

Back to the Manic - there scones are really good. The washroom downstairs was spotless - a real rarity it seems.

I cleaned my Rocky for the first time today. What beautiful workmanship. And really easy to clean too.

Have a good trip to Toronto.
And if you ever want to pull a shot on my Silvia just send me a note.
Cheers,
Bert

Re:Black Cat & Kid-O from Intelligentsia - 2008/05/21 21:51 The LINUX cafe in Toronto!
I am SO there!

Let's cook up a meet-up - even if it is 2 or 3 of us.

All it takes for a coffee meet-up is 2.
3 usually results in an argument.
4 is a convention.
