Green coffee beans - 2007/01/08 11:30Is there a source for good GREEN COFFEE BEANS in Vancouver, or anywhere in BC? I am looking for something analogous to Green Beanery in Toronto or Sweet Maria's in California, for home roasting.

I haven't found anything on the same scale as Sweet Marias locally.
There is greencoffee.ca which I believe is in Burnaby. I tried to order from them once but I got to the checkout and found that they didn't take Mastercard (!) so I don't know if they're any good.
If you're willing to go a little farther afield, I've had some really fine beans through mail order from both birdsandbeans.ca and greenbeanery.ca in Toronto.
I tried terracaf.ca in Montreal, but their minimum amounts are high and frankly I didn't think the quality was there.
And if you're mail ordering anyway, don't miss Smith Farms at smithfarms.com for mail order Kona direct from Hawaii.

Re:Green coffee beans - 2007/01/08 13:35Origins at the Granville Island Market might let you in on some... The is also a roaster down on West Broadway a few blocks above Alma in the West end... Yoka's Roaster I think - they might be open to selling you some. Cairo Coffee Victoria sells green coffee as well.

Thank you both for your suggestions re. sources for green coffee beans in the Vancouver area. Each of those you mentioned - GreenCoffee.ca (Delta), Origins Coffee (Granville Island) and Yoka's (West Broadway) - has a variety of green beans available. I have purchased some and am in the process of testing them.
I also bought some roasted Espresso beans at The Elysian Room, after reading glowing comments on this website about them. I like them very much.

No CoffeeCrew trip to Vancouver is complete without a trip to the Elysian Room. They brew the best cup of Clover coffee and are no slouch with espresso either.
Some other must visits in Vancouver include; Prado and JJ Bean on Commercial and, to a lesser extent, Cafe Artigiano.

Re:Green coffee beans - 2007/01/11 13:11I've got no suggestions about where to get beans in BC. I live in Ontario, and locally, there is only 1 roaster that I know I can buy green beans from. Trouble is, they want to charge me roasted bean prices for the same weight of green. Their roasted prices are reasonale, but charging the same for green is definitely not appealing.
I've tried greenbeanery.ca, and find some of their pricing strangely expensive. I am new to the roasting thing, and so far, have not found better bang for my buck than with Sweet Maria's. With the shipping, it's not always the cheapest, but prices are comparable, or even better at times compared to greenbeanery.ca and other Cnaadian mail-order sources (shipping taken into account) and the quality seems to be there...

Currently, I am ordering beans(I prefer to buy fairtrade organic) from the Equator Coffee Co in Almonte, Ontario. http://www.equator.ca/ Another is the Merchants of Green Coffee http://www.merchantsofgreencoffee.com/ I also purchase green beans from the Muskoka Roastery in Huntsville and Beans and Dreams in Peterborough. You would need to contact these two by email to figure out costs and shipping on green beans. I have found that almost any roaster will sell you green beans.
