Gaggia - decompression duct - 2007/05/01 07:03 just acquired a pre-owned Gaggia Classic in great condition. While reviewing all parts, processes, etc. I noticed that the 'Decompression Duct' is missing the vertical tube that extends down into the Drip Tray. What is the purpose of the decompression duct, and what will happen if used without the tube? Is this tube something that I could find at a home store (like home depot?). thanks for your help and advice!

Re:Gaggia - decompression duct - 2007/05/01 14:04 John,

When the machine's pump is disengaged, the Classic contains a solenoid valve that vents the remaining pressurized water away from the basket and into the drip tray.

The tube is used to make sure that the vented water and coffee oils get there. You could probably find something suitable. Without the tube in place, it could be a bit messy.

Re:Gaggia - decompression duct - 2007/05/01 16:25 You can get the tube from EspressoTec.Com for about 10$

Save yourself the hassle of trying to find something exact.

Re:Gaggia - decompression duct - 2007/05/10 22:53 The other option of course is to put your machine on a towel, and change it every other day. It depends on how clean you keep the rest of your kitchen I suppose that if you have just gone out and bought a gaggia classic, you can probably afford to buy a $10 hose. www.currentcoffee.ca
