Breville BCG450XL conical burr grinder. - 2007/04/13 00:04PRO: I'm quite impressed by the quality of the Breville BCG450XL conical burr grinder. Paid 99 $CA in Montréal for it. A steal in my opinion. It has a modern, clean and attractive metallic design. I find this machine absolutely perfect. It's silent, solid, and most of all, offers a very consistent grind due to its adjustable conical burrs. It has a burst button for manual operation, and a 10 to 30 sec timer to set and forget if you prefer automatic grinding. Best of all is that it operates virtually STATIC FREE (no coffee flying around with this baby). There is no need to hold the lids down during operation and there is no machine walking off the counter due to vibrations as I found with some other brands I tried in stores (i.e. Bodum, Capresso.) The 15 grinding positions are precise, well defined and easily adjustable. Cleaning the removable burr is very easy. This grinder makes a perfect press, filter, espresso, or turkish. Just for its low humming noise, high quality, sturdiness, start and forget operation, and easy cleaning makes it a 10/10 for me. Do I recommend this Australian made machine? You bet. CON: None so far.

Re:Breville BCG450XL conical burr grinder. - 2007/10/22 12:05I absolutely agree with André. I have used this machine for the last 5 months and would HIGHLY recommend it. I love the even consistent grind for all types of coffee preparation. Money well spent. I paid $115, but considering I had planned on paying up to $600 for a conical burr grinder, I think that I found a good deal.

Re:Breville BCG450XL conical burr grinder. - 2008/10/19 08:19I also have this grinder and have found it to be very precise for my needs thus far - from coarse (French Press), Fine (Drip Coffee) to Extra Fine (Espresso). The only downside I have is that the coffee tray is plastic and the grinds tend to 'cling' to the sides a bit. But, a simple rinse is all it takes to clean this properly.
I noticed a few asked where to buy it: Home Outfitters is the best in my opinion. They are part of HBC (The Bay), so you can use any Bay/HBC gift certificates at Home Outfitters (which is what I did), but for some reason, Home Outfitters has lower prices than the Bay for the exact same items.

Re:Breville BCG450XL conical burr grinder. - 2008/10/19 12:14I have been using the Bodum burr grinder for most of my kitchen needs - it has the internals of the Solis Maestro and has some gear reduction which is very important - I am seriously overdue to review the Bodum grinder - as well as 2 other items from Bodum-U.S.A. - begging your pardons to the good folks at Bodum U.S.A. !Colin is the Senior editor and creator of the CoffeeCrew.Com Website
