Breville 800 vs Saeco Aroma - 2006/12/02 09:14 Hi. Looking for help in selecting an expresso machine for my wife for Christmas. She drinks only cappucinno type drinks - no straight espresso. We had an old pressure reservoir $80 machine that we used sporadically, but it was fiddly and low on steam so I wand to upgrade. I read your site reviews on the Saeco Classico and it seemed good. Was in Sears today and they had a Breville 800 on sale for $400. Any comments on these two models? I like the idea of a pressurized portafilter as I know both her and I will not make a true art out of the tamping and grinding to ensure considtancy.

Any advice from out there is greatly appreciated.

Re:Breville 800 vs Saeco Aroma - 2006/12/02 11:15 The Breville is totally old school with its "Thermoblock" system -- not a true boiler...
and it is over-priced for what you get.

I have heard a consumer report from one Breville owner whose Breville espresso exploded after 3 monthes.

Yes. Exploded. Not pretty.

All the Saeco products use stainless steel boilers - real boilers, as all pump driven espresso machines should have.

AVOID THE BREVILLE ESPRESSO THIS CHRISTMAS!

Re:Breville 800 vs Saeco Aroma - 2006/12/05 22:50 OK I will ditch the idea of a Breville. How do these 3 compare:
Saeco Magic: $450 with a special frother, cup warmer, and pressurized filter this looks good

Gaggie Evolution $500 in Calgary - very sharp looking in red. Probably bullit proof but not as many features

Rancillo Silva $675 from Vancouver. Seems higher end, but $250 above my price range - is it worth it?

Any comments from owners/users appreciated.
