The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - part 1 - 2007/11/27 14:35 This thread discusses the Content article: The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - part 1

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the great review! I am afraid though I feel somewhat hanging... as a notorious fence sitter of course. The foodie in me says to go to the Rancilio but the slacker says..super automatic. I am also very mindful of my wife who might really enjoy the ease of the Saeco Talea Touch for her lattes etc.

I was wondering if you have any follow up that might give some comfort to the foodie side ? Your review is positive, but really I wonder about the quality of the pure shot. Were you able to improve it at all? Is there any superautomatic in similar price range that you prefer.. sorry for the barrage of questions!

Thanks again for a great site!

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/11/27 16:32 There is no comparing the Talea Ring plus to the Rancilio Silvia.
The TR-Plus brews "Suiss brew" coffee -- or pressure brewed coffee as it is often referred to. It is not quite espresso.
What it is, for the average consumer is very convenient coffee! Obviously there is less muss and fuss with the TR-Plus.
What I found about living with the Silvia and virtually every other home espresso machine - is that it is messy and sometimes hit and miss... you know: phase of the moon isn't right or the humidity is too high or low... the grind is not quite right.
This is the downside to the manual machines - there is waste.
But there is purism and joy too!

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/11/28 06:46 Colin, That's what I was afraid you were going to say! lol.. excellent comments and thank you. My own dilemma is whether I am a purist or a wannabe!

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/12/04 00:29 I have tried Saeco Talea a few times. It is very easy to use, but it DOES NOT BREW "ESPRESSO"
I will stick to my ECM GIOTTO

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/12/04 13:06 Hello Anna, Colin..
I have come out of the closet and taken the plunge as a purist! I just ordered the EMC Giotto yesterday from espressotec!

Although the ease of the superautomatic appealed to me...I could not escape the feeling that I would always wonder and regret about the trade off..

Thanks to Colin again for his help.

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - part 1 - 2007/12/10 11:44 There are sub-menus that can be used to adjust the volume of coffee being ground on the Talea Ring Plus.

Can anybody advise how to access these sub-menus?

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/12/10 13:15 I did this very thing --

Do you own the unit?
Do you have the manual handy?
If you have lost the manual it is available
for download on espressotec.com

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/12/13 09:15 Yes I have the manual, but there are sub menus available that used by Saeco people to make adjustments.

It would be good to know what the sequence is to enter into these sub-menus to make your own adjustments without having to bring it into a Saeco repair facility.

Re:The Saeco Talea - One ring to brew them all - - 2007/12/13 10:40 You could e-mail the gang at espressotec.com

Their e-mail is sales@espressotec.com
they are particularly helpful.

Sorry I missed exactly what you were
asking 1st time around.
