Backflushing a Silvia - 2008/02/03 18:03 I finally decalcified my Silvia today. I used Cleancaf since I had already purchased it. Everything went well. Now I am looking forward to backflushing my Silvia. I am going to be using Cafiza espresso machine cleaner powder for the backflushing.

Instructions I have for Backflushing with Cafiza on an espresso machine such as the Silvia including one question that I have:

1.Insert blind filter in portafilter and add up to 1/2 teaspoon (3g) of Cafiza powder. Insert portafilter into grouphead.

2. Activate Brew cycle for 10 seconds. Stop 10 seconds.Repeat 5 (five) times.

That's it?
All I do is put 1/2 teaspoon of Cafizainto portafilter and attach portafilter and press BREW and wait for 10 seconds etc?
Is no water or anything added into water tank of Silvia?
Sorry but I am a newbie at this.

This is my only question.Anyways I will add the rest of the instruction from the web:

3.Remove portafilter.Activate Brew cycle and rinse portafilter in stream of water from grouphead.Stop cycle.

See- it talks about water but how much and where and when do I add it?

4.Insert portafilter into grouphead. Repeat step (2)
without Cafiza powder 5 (five) times.
5. Make and discard a cup of espresso to insure no residue remains.

Thanks.

I could go through the whole routine... but let's not re-invent the wheel.

Re:Backflushing a Silvia - 2008/02/04 06:58 Thanks Colin. You are not going to believe this- but while doing research on backflushing last night on the internet for about 2 and a half hours I downloaded and printed 28 pages on this subject and it included the same link you just recommended! Thank you Colin!
I now know what information from all that 28 pages I should be relying on to backflush my Silvia!

It is an awesome link! I am backflushing tonight.
