My A & M Sassoon machine - 2008/03/05 04:18 I wonder if you could help date my machine? It has the steam wand in the head, it has a squared off group handle, a rounded steam filler knob and a rounded jug handle. See picture. I think it's from the 50s but it could be 40s or 60s. Thanks Michael

They were the first series frother. The steaming wand is similar in principal to the other Atomic coffee makers that came out during this period with the frother. A TEE with direct downflow to the frothing cup.
The Sassoon models differs from the rest as you have noted, plus they have no ring on the boiler, the jug is much thinner hence the cover that you may sometimes see, the ackward position of the frothing valve, the beautiful nickel bronze black filling knob that will never seize and of course the incomparable 6 hole frothing tip. Unfortunately these last two good features are offset by a filter cup with holes that are too big and a fast brewing time that makes for a slightly insipid taste. You can correct that quite easily by getting a Krups stainless filter No. 0001435 that fits in absolutely perfectly and has much smaller holes. The difference is remarquable. Re:My A & M Sassoon machine - 2008/03/10 06:47 Hi! PS I need to correct an error. For Robiatti please read Bialetti! It was an old Bialetti filter plate and rubber washer I used as there was no filter plate and the original washer had fused between the head and the coffee holder. Cheers, Michael
