Homeless Starbuck's espresso machines - 2008/03/27 13:38 As part of the new Starbuck's plan to bring back customers, they are replacing the old La Marzocco with new coffee machines like The Clover (brewed) and the Mastrena (espresso)...what will they do with all of there current equipment?? Where does all of this used equipment go?

Re:Homeless Starbuck's espresso machines - 2008/03/27 15:39 You missed one step here.
Starbucks replaced all of their La Marzocco's over a year ago... probably 2 years ago for Swiss made super-auto's.
Where do they go? Back to the factory for re-build and re-sell. There is no landfill stuff with these machines. As for Starbucks serving Clover coffee - That I have to see.
I know they have bought the Clover coffee company - as far as using the equipment in all of their cafes: The Clover is almost 10,000 dollars per system. We shall see.

Re:Homeless Starbuck's espresso machines - 2008/03/28 07:48 thanks for the reply. I didn't now they already replaced the La Marzoccos.. It just seems like huge waste of good machines.

Re:Homeless Starbuck's espresso machines - 2008/03/28 08:47 Howard replaced the La Marzocco's (arguably the best espresso machines on the Planet...) to eliminate the human component in the product cycle...

My god! I am starting to talk like The Shultz!

The robots they put in their place made consistent but generally inferior shots of espresso and hence; lattes, cappuccino's etc...

I think it is funny how corporate wonks, like Howard and Starbucks Co. go back and forth like a pendulum:
"We need to eliminate the human error factor, we need to integrate the human component, we need to la-la-la, we need to lo-lo-lo..."

My god - now I am a song writer...
