Bean for Medium roast, Drip or Press - 2008/04/19 23:20Heya,
I'm looking for some recommendations regarding good beans to buy for a medium roast, to be used in drip or press.
I would like to buy local (Victoria BC), and I am not worried about FTO (but would like it if possible). I just want a quality bean.
I've read up on the page here about "The Victoria B.C. Cafe Reviews" and am quite interested in what Cafe Fantastico would have to offer.

Re:Bean for Medium roast, Drip or Press - 2008/04/20 20:00Hi! Welcome to the pursuit. I just stepped up from a bottom end Cuisinart burr grinder to the Rancilio Rocky. I purchased it refurbished from one of the online vendors advertised on this site. I've only had it for ~ 4 days right now... but wow.. what a difference. I cant compare the Maestro or Maestro Plus, but so far the Rocky seems tremendous.

If you're willing to share, I'd also be interested in which retailer you purchased from and how your experience was.

I purchased from WholeLatteLove. Thus far, no complaints. The buying experience was very positive. Both the Silvia and the Rocky were packaged well and appear to be working well. I've utilized there customer support for some brewing advise as well.
I am still playing around with the grind and tamping pressure, but had thick crema from my 2nd shot (the first was a combination of overpacked and/or too finely ground)... i plugged the machine.
This was my only experience with purchasing with them... but so far so good.

Heck yes! It is the cause of 99% of taste problems with espresso coffee (all other mechanical things being normal and the coffee being fresh...)

Hi,
I've had my Mokita for 5 years now, and I find the coffee is getting kind of bitter - sour, and there is almost no more crema. At first, I thought it was the coffee itself, but now I doubt it....
Pouring the espresso into the hot water, saves the crema.... I have has this request a few times, as for taste difference, I do not know if it does....
As opposed to the other way around? Do you mean the difference between pouring the water over the espresso as opposed to pouring the espresso over the hot water?
