Re:squeaking steam valve - 2008/05/22 15:00 A squeak?
How is it squeaking? When you move it?
Does it have a pivot arm?
There is a food safe lubricant you can use...

Leaking? Inside the machine, under where the arm comes out or at the tip?

Re:squeaking steam valve - 2008/05/22 19:44 The steam control knob is squeaking and becoming a little stiff to turn like a hinge on a door. It's only leaking slightly but at the end of the steam arm.

EDITOR COMMENT: You can buy a variety of food safe lubricants from a variety of places - google search to start with or let me know your location.

A little leaking at the steam wand end may just be condensation

Re:squeaking steam valve - 2008/05/25 21:23 The steam knob of my Silvia Squeaks when turning, too. Doesn't affect performance though. Tmplo is a Vancouver area resident and coffee expert

Re:squeaking steam valve - 2008/05/25 21:29 Every espresso machine I have had (all the Gaggias ad all the Rancilio's) squeaked a bit --

Keep in mind: Water is a lubricant (which is an integral part of all espresso processes...) and it tends to quell lots of noises - hence your squeak may come and go.

But like I said - there are food safe lubes that you can apply from time to time - Hey, you could even use a glycerin based one - that you could apply from time to time.
