advice on machine/grinder - 2008/06/09 04:33
Hi, as you can see from the title I am looking at buying an espresso setup (machine & grinder). My budget is around 500-600 for both.....Here is a short list of potentials...Saeco Aroma....Gaggia espresso color, pure or baby black.
For the grinder I was thinking a Baratza Maestro plus or the Virtuoso...
Let me know what you think I should get...Any other suggestion is obviously welcome.
thanks!

At that price point, I would totally go for the Baratza Virtuoso - as the grinder... because it is up for the job... and espresso machine wise... well, anything by Gaggia or the Saeco Aroma.
I lean slightly towards the Gaggia line because they have the 58MM portafilters (commercial size) and make better double shots.

Hey guys!
just thought I would let you know that I've just ordered a gaggia color with a Rancillio rocky doserless! Can't wait to have them! I'll keep you posted on my first impressions.

Hello jfdup,
I was just wondering where you ordered your equipment from and why?
Thanks,
Dave

Hey dave,
I ordered them from creativecookware because they had a promotion (free espesso cups, stainless steel cup for milk, coffee beans and shipping). I was also looking at espressotec but decided to go with creative (it also seemed that the color was still on pre order with them so)
I dont know if I made the right choice but I really liked the color and after comparing the performance of the color, doser and pure, I could not really find anything that different with all of them so...
cheers

Jfdup,
I've looked at Creativecookware also to see if they have a machine that interests me. So far I'm still trying to decide on the type of machine and the amount of money I'm willing to spend.
I was interested in the V-Tech Uno (reviewed on this site) but I can't find any further information about the manufacturer and that gives me a little cause for concern.
Currently I have an old (15 yrs.) Gran Gaggia that is well past its prime and should be retired. I guess I'll just have to keep nursing it along until I finally make up my mind.
Take care,
Dave

Jfdup,
As of yet.....shudder......no grinder! I will probably purchase a Rocky when I buy my machine.
I know that a grinder is just as important as the machine itself but I've just recently decided to "up" my level of interest in the art espresso manufacturing

that's great man. I can't wait to get mine! From what I was able to find it seems like an awesome piece of machinery. It's going to look a bit intimidating on my kitchen counter but who cares!P)
