It is far from the end of the machine !
In fact I don't think that they can die.
Just keep shaking and all those flakes will come out eventually. Heat and cold cycles will dislodge them. This means that your water is softer than the one used in the machine in it's previous life. Don't be worried, that scale is not the aluminum breaking down at all. When you look inside the filling hole, you will notice a pebble finish, that is NOT corrosion, simply the way the surface looks when the main body was sand cast. They didn't polish the inside.....yes I agree, they had to cut corners

Don't forget: NEVER LEAVE THE BIG BLACK KNOB ON ! Not even overnight. After use, when cold, take it off completely. Frederick Nakos is the Global authority on the Atomic Espresso Coffee maker.
