It is not every day that you get to meet a true Toy-legend. So, I count my blessings that my wife and I got to spend about 3 or 4 hours with one of the inventor-legends, Alan Adler, his lovely wife, Irene and his Grand-daughter Constance.

No, not that kind of S&M. Glenn relates his experience as a Canadian ordering green beans from the well-known Sweet Maria's, based in California. Sweet Maria's is head and shoulders above many other purveyors in the quality of both their greens and the information that they provide to their customers. Glenn points out a few cost-saving measures when ordering from north of the border.

Alan Adler came to town for 5 days with his wife and grand-daughter. They saw the sights and sounds of Victoria, B.C. Canada. They took my wife and I to dinner.
We gave them a walking and driving tour of the city and its surroundings. They have been here before but they loved it all over again.
Alan was kind enough to come down to Discovery Coffee and pit the Aeropress coffee maker against the Clover Coffee maker... and the Synesso espresso machine.
That's right readers: He wagered his 39$ coffee maker against an 8000$ single cup coffee brewer and a 12,000$ espresso machine.

Colin and I are working on some tech issues over at my own site, BobHarris.com, and so he asked me to post something here to try to replicate and/or compare glitches I'm getting. (Maybe it's me, I believe, is what we're trying to determine.)
The only coffee-related news I have is actually a massive plug for my upcoming humour book about Jeopardy!, where I have appeared thirteen times over nearly a decade, managing not to win over $3.1 million in various tournaments.
Prisoner Of Trebekistan will be out in early September, and I wrote almost all of it while sitting in two coffee shops on the west side of Los Angeles.
The latest news on the book: it just got its first major review, as of this morning. Kirkus had this to say, among other kind words:
. . . This cleverly executed volume displays the obligatory acumen and erudition, as well as considerable wit and writing ability. . . goes beyond backstage information and tips on mnemonics to build a substantive memoir of family and growth. It’s about love and a burgeoning devotion to history and science, to fun and facts and connections. For his next report, we look forward to his departure from Trebekistan.
Of natural interest to Jeopardy! buffs, but solid entertainment as well for readers who don’t tune in.
Well, whee! Kirkus is apparently kind of a big deal, in that bookstores tend to check out the reviews while deciding how much of a given volume to stock. Or so I'm told. I have no idea, really. But still, as of this morning, I feel a little more excited to see how the book does.
If you'd like to pre-order a copy of this coffee-soaked, caffeine-fueled memoir of high-stakes televised stress, that would be neat. But whether you're all excited about the book or not, at least maybe you enjoyed watching a grown man in his forties going "whee!" right in front of you just now. So there's that. Thanks!
Bob Harris lives and works in Los Angeles, California - In the past he has been a record setting Jeopardy winner, a college and university speaker, a restless traveller and a writer on the TV Show "CSI-Las Vegas".

Subject: Re:Buying Decision:Saeco Armonia versus Gaggia Car - by: colin
My decision would come down to the fact that the Gaggia has some pro-sized accoutrements - 58MM portafilter and a larger double basket.
That alone puts the Gaggia out front for me....
